Milsa will share her culture and community with you on a walking tour of her hometown. This traditional artisan and agricultural town is distinguished by it’s beautiful painted homes and businesses. Each wall showcases the traditional designs found in contemporary weavings that are handwoven here.  

About the tour

Milsa will meet you in the main plaza in Santa Catarina Palopó. Your tour includes a visit to all of the key sites, is rich in culture and history, and will end in Milsa’s home where she has set up a cultural center. You will visit the main locations of Santa Catarina Palopó including the dock, the main church, Pintando Santa Catarina Papolo, cultural center of the town, and other important places to get to know the town. The tour includes a traditional lunch at Milsa’s house, you will have the opportunity to test out your tortilla making skills; it’s not as easy as it looks!

Milsa Sajvin is a MAIA Girl Pioneer from Santa Catarina Palopó

She is studying tourism and is working with MAIA to lead tours of her hometown. Milsa has been part of the STF Summit in NYC were she shared some of her favorite Vocal Empowerment exercises, you can watch the full video clicking here.

  • Santa Catarina Palopó tours are available from Thursday through Sunday.

  • We recommend starting your tour at 10:00am. Tours last about three hours.

  • The Santa Catarina Palopó Tour costs Q.250 per person or $35 (USD).

  • Tours guided by Milsa can be in English, Spanish, or Kaqchikel.

  • All the revenue of the tour supports MAIA's Impact School as well as Milsa's university-related expenses.
