Q: What has been the hardest part about completing the last 6 years of secondary schooling?
The illness of my father made things very difficult. And high school got even harder economically because he was still sick and there are two of us in the same grade (Celena and her twin, Yolanda).
Q: How do you feel now that you have finished?
Thrilled! Whereas before we depended completely on our parents, now that we have graduated we have the opportunity to find work and to help ourselves and to support them.
Q: Why do you want to be a mentor in Starfish?
I love to work with youth, and this is a great chance to also help support my family. I love the interaction between mentor and girl, and now I can be on the other side of that with the girls I help.
Q: what would you say to a girl who feels that she cannot take it anymore and wants to drop out of school?
That she should visualize her future and know what she wants. Then ask her, will you obtain that without and education? If you study, you will have so many more chances to support your family.
We are so proud of Celena and all of our students and mentors. Felicitaciones!
